Free West Papua : Papua and West Papua unite the vision of nature conservation and biodiversity

West Papua Province may be proud of themselves, the article is that they become the only sustainable Province that prioritizes conservation aspects in their development. The legality is stated in the Special Regional Regulation (Perdasus) whose draft was launched at the opening of 2018 Biodiversity, Ecotourism and Creative Economy (ICBE) Conference in West Papua Governor's Office on Sunday (10/07/2018).
The submission of the draft Perdasus was carried out by West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan to Pieters Kondjol as Chair of the West Papua Provincial Parliament. This is fundamental in safeguarding the land ecosystem of West Papua which, when combined with its neighbor, Papua Province, contributes 50% of biodiversity in Indonesia.
The Perdasus is also the basis for the initiative to review the West Papua Spatial and Regional Plan which is being carried out by the West Papua Province team. The aim is to rearrange the proportion of protected areas and forest cultivation in West Papua, which currently has a composition of 36% compared to 64%. While the target carried is the opposite, 70% of West Papua is a conservation and protected area.
"Many people think that this goal as stated in the Conservation Provincial declaration is very ambitious, but I realize that just relying on ordinary development, there will be no change. There are not many choices except to encourage development that takes into account Natural Resources, environmental preservation and benefits to the community. This is not an easy job, and I am sure that by collaborating with the support of the Central Government, related Ministries and community support and development partners, this goal will be achieved, "he said.
On the occasion also the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was made to equate the vision of sustainable development between the Provincial Governments of Papua and West Papua.
In remarks from the Governor of West Papua read by the Second Secretary of the Papua Province Noak Kapisa, Papua expressed its commitment to sustainable development.
"As we know that the vision of Papua's Sustainable Development (Visi 2100 Papua) is the basis of our development vision in the period 2018-2023 is' the happiness and quality of life of all Papuans are at the highest level fairly and equitably, and the natural conditions of Papua, both mainland, air water remains sustainable and maintained and increases its quality '. For us in Papua Province, land is Mother. That phrase is enough to illustrate how Papua's forests and nature which are rich in natural resources always provide all the needs and protection of a mama who provides food, drink, warmth and protection for her children, "Noak said.
This unification of vision from Papua and West Papua is one thing that is needed in supporting the conservation of nature and biodiversity in the Land of Papua. This was also said by the Head of the West Papua Province Regional Research and Development Agency who is also the Chair of Charlie Heatubun's 2018 ICBE Working Team.
"Although administratively different, but biologically and ecologically we are the same, that's why we have to build a shared commitment to maintain and preserve what we have in Papua," he explained.
On this occasion Pinang and Anggrek species were also introduced whose names were taken from Mr. and First Lady Joko Widodo and Iriana Widodo. Pinang Jokowi (Areca jokowi) is dedicated to Joko Widodo for his exemplary leadership and simplicity, and most importantly his special attention to the development of the Land of Papua. While Anggrek Iriana (Bulbophyllum irianae) is dedicated as a tribute to his efforts in encouraging and supporting the development process in Papua and West Papua.
ICBE 2018 first day, Monday (08/10/2018) will hold 3 plenary sessions and 4 parallel sessions with various themes.
