Susi Increases Catfish Cultivation In Papua to Helps Community Economy

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is consistent to improve nutrition adequacy and encourage people's economy in Papua Province. The commitment is realized with the development of the fishery sector through various business activities such as in the field of aquaculture, such as the support of catfish cultivation of biofloc system and independent fish feed.
The Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Susi Pudjiastuti, confirmed that after the harvest of catfish together in the Fish Breeding Unit (UPR) Oname Hawaiian Catfish, Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, last weekend.
"I have long asked the Director General of Cultivation to develop biofloc catfish in Papua. Why I prioritize because the Papua region including the lack of protein sources, "said Minister Susi quoted a written statement, Jakarta, Wednesday (21/3/2018).
For information, the biofloc catfish that is harvested is the assistance of the Directorate General of Aquaculture (DJPB) through the Central Freshwater Aquaculture Development (BBPBAT) in 2017. The help is given in 2 packages each consisting of 8 holes. Each hole contains 3000 catfish with size 7-8 cm.
In order to support the success of the cultivation, the government supplemented the assistance with 4 tons of fish feed and supporting equipment such as pumps, blowers and 1000 KPA generators. The assistance is worth a total of Rp390 million. Not only capital assistance, the government also provides assistance for 3 weeks to the farmers and provide consultations that can be done continuously.
Since given in November 2017 and to this day, 16 holes of catfish bioflok aid has been harvested. Each hole produces 5 tons of catfish with size 5-6 tail per kg.
KKP efforts encourage the development of catfish cultivation of biofloc systems in Papua is not without reason. Minister Susi hopes, with this cultivation technology, fish production can be doubled so that it can become fish supplier in Papua region. The number of people who can be involved, also a consideration.
"Bioflok can be done by housewives. In addition to groups of cultivators or cooperatives, in fact people can apply this. Starting with own capital, we will help the seeds later. For example in Sleman's KUB that we help it become the center of seed sales, while the people who do the enlargement. Each citizen in Sleman has its own pool, "she explained.
In addition to biofloc technology, KKP also encourages the development of independent fish feed in Papua given the availability of abundant local raw materials such as corn and soybeans. With the independent feed is expected to benefit the cultivators will be greater.
As for the sustainability of fishing in public waters such as lakes, KKP encourages restocking, of course with respect to the type of fish, so as not to threaten fish endemic lake.
The development of the marine and fisheries sector of Papua has shown results. According to Pjs Governor of Papua Soedarmo, in the period of 2013-2017, development achievement has increased, especially the aquaculture production sector which grew by 1.09 percent with a land area of 1.02 percent and the number of cultivators of 2.5 percent.
"Development of aquaculture is spread across 29 districts / cities based on five customary areas," said Soedarmo.
Not only focus on production issues, Minister Susi also highlighted the importance of capital strengthening and marketing issues. For both of these, She affirmed the CTF's readiness to cooperate with the local government.
"Local governments should assist in marketing marine and fishery products. The CTF has a BLU (Agency for Business Services), please submit if you want to apply for capital loan, "she said.
Related to capture fisheries, Minister Susi hopes that catch fish in Papua waters first landed in Papua, then weighing and collected retribution before the fish is sent out of Papua. That way, he hopes to get in and out of Papua fish always through data collection and provide tangible benefits for the region.
Therefore, to support the development of the national fishery downstream, Minister Susi also said that currently the CTF already has a national fish logistics system design. "My logistics design is a fish picture on the map of Indonesia. I hope the goods from Papua are not only to Java or Makassar but have to get out as well. I want all to be efficient, "she explained.
The issue of national defense was also conveyed by Minister Susi. He explained how strategic the development program Sentra Marine And Fishery Integrated (SKPT) which is currently being promoted by KKP. According to him, if this SKPT program works, then KKP will build national resilience through 2 (two) approaches at once, geopolitical and economic.
"If SKPT works, this SKPT is for the durability of NKRI in the outer islands. In SKPT it should have cold storage, transports, there is a small fishing boat 100, and 2 large ships so that SKPT there are about 1000 people. The SKPT will take food, if anything like war, for example, that TNI can enter because civilians are already there to help and food stock already exists, "said Minister Susi.
