Jokowi Instructs Minister of PUPR to Provide Home For Former OPM (Free Papua Organization)

The government plans to provide housing facilities for former members of the Free Papua Organization (OPM). President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also ordered the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono to prepare the house.

Basuki said his ministry would use a special home program to provide homes to former members of this organization. The PUPR Ministry also still has sufficient budget this year for the construction of the facility.

"The number is not much, below 50 units," he said when met at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, after facing Jokowi, Monday (5/3).

Unfortunately, Basuki did not elaborate on the exact location of the house to be prepared by the government for the former OPM combatants. He only explained that his location was in the province of Papua, but he admitted forgot his district name.

In addition to housing facilities for ex-rebel groups, the PUPR Ministry is also focusing on the work of infrastructure in the Agats region of Asmat District, Papua. This infrastructure consists of bridges, roads, sanitation systems, to rainwater catchments.

Director General of Highways of the Ministry of PUPR Arie Moerwanto said it would build a bridge from a special settlement of Kampung Syuru to Agats. In addition, to facilitate connectivity, DGH also plans to build roads from Agats to New Hospital in the area along 3 kilometers.

"So that they (Asmat residents) are not isolated," said Arie
