Plantation Products Have Potential in European Markets

In order to welcome export opportunities, the West Papua Provincial Government will increase plantation production as quoted from West Papua Governor Dominggus said that he would expand the plantation area by opening new lands.

”It should start next year. There is a desire for West Papua to have large-scale plantations.  There is additional land to increase production so that we can export our superior commodities,” he said in Manokwari.

West Papua has a number of first-rate commodities that can be exported to a number of European countries. Some time ago, he had a meeting with the Minister of Agriculture and the Central Government sees West Papua’s great potential for the development of the plantation sector. “The land is still very extensive. The production of Nutmeg, Cocoa, Oil Palm and Corn can increase.  We can develop coffee plantation in the mountains of Arfak,” he said.

He wants this area to have 1 million hectares of nutmeg plantation. According to him, this is to realize these expectations in the areas of  ​​Kaimana and Fakfak. The Governor’s advanced plantation development program is currently being drafted. Studies will be undertaken to ensure suitable land and commodities in each region. “In the Arfak Mountains, we have a big potential for coffee development, West Papua is currently preparing a Medium Term Regional Plan (RPJMD), which will be one of the provincial government’s priorities, and infrastructure development will continue to support the development of all sectors, “he explained.
