Jokowi: Next Year, All Villages in Papua Must Be Bright



NABIRE, KOMPAS.com - President Joko Widodo revealed that until now there are still about 3,000 villages in Indonesia has not been powered by electricity.

Of that number, as many as 2,000 villages of which are located in eastern Indonesia.

"Most (villages that have not been powered by electricity), in the land of Papua," said President when inaugurating Nabire Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTGM) 20 megawatts, Wednesday (20/12/2017).

The President also instructed the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignatius Jonan and PLN Director Sofyan Basyir to resolve the issue.

"I have asked the Minister of EMR and with PLN, immediately completed the electricity in 2,000 villages," said Jokowi.

"The Minister has agreed on next year (to be finished), not me, but the Minister agreed next year, so next year all the villages in Papua must be bright," he continued.

Jokowi admitted, building electricity infrastructure in the land of Papua is difficult. In addition to its hard-to-access terrain, the cost of automatic processing is also expensive to double.

Even so, the President is committed to continue building Papua.

"No matter what the terrain, we must be conquered and all the villages in Papua should be bright," said Jokowi who was immediately applauded by the public in attendance.
