Indonesian Doctors' Association Support the Government Handling Measles in Asmat, Jakarta. The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) grieves over the succession of the nation's next generations in Asmat, Papua. The cause of children in Asmat died not only because of the measles outbreak. They also experience malnutrition.

As many as 61 children in Asmat-Papua District died because of the combination of these conditions. "We're sorry. The problem of outbreaks of Diphtheria is not yet complete. Now, we are shocked by Measles, "said Ilham Oetama Marsis, Chairman of IDI Executive Board, in a press statement received Health, Wednesday (17/1/2018).

In the handling of measles in Asmat, the President of Indonesia Joko Widodo responded immediately by ordering the Ministry of Health to send medical personnel immediately.

The Health Ministry reportedly sent 39 health workers. The majority of health workers are general practitioners and specialists. "The team sent by the Ministry of Health to handle measles and malnutrition, most doctors are also members of IDI," said Marsis.

IDI's Secretary General, Adib Khumaidi, said IDI is always ready if the government needs additional support.

"We through the Disaster Response Committee and the Communicable Disease Control Committee have coordinated with IDI Papua Region and IDI of Asmat District to provide support and assistance on site," Adib said in the release.

There is support and additional assistance for measles and malnutrition problems to be quickly resolved. Among the medical teams deployed to Asmat, there is also the Indonesian Child Pediatricians Association (IDAI).

"IDAI's involvement in the Kemenkes team is also part of the IDI," he added.
