Foreign Minister Retno Talks about Pacific Countries of Papua Batch

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi talked about the attitude of Pacific countries countries that often voice the issue of independence of Papua in the UN forum. According to him, these countries have the right to argue but Indonesia insists it will not back down to face separatism.
The statement of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Retno came to the fore when delivering the performance achievement of three years of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) from international relations. According to him, the South Pacific region became one of the focus of Indonesian foreign policy.
"The South Pacific region has always been the priportas of Indonesian foreign policy, in the last three years the presence of Indonesia in the South Pacific forum is always visible," said Retno, Thursday (26/10/2017).
"And when the South Pacific is in disaster, Indonesia is also a country that is trying to help," he said.
Regarding the existence of the South Pacific country that often throws criticism towards Indonesia in the UN related forum of Papua, Retno regarded it as right of opinion.
"At the UN, all countries have freedom to express their opinions. Not many, some countries address the issue of Papua, it is their right, and our right is to explain, "he said.
"I want to underline, if we talk about separatism, that's where the point stops. We will not retreat an inch if we talk about separatism, "said Retno.
