Portrait of The Current and Future Education in West Papua

Every human being needs education, whenever and wherever he is. Without education, he will be difficult to develop and even going backward. Thus, education should really be directed to produce qualified and competing human beings, in addition to having noble minds and good morals. One of the purpose of education is as an effort to educate citizens to be the one who is faithful and devoted to God Almighty, noble, knowledgeable, skilled, healthy physically and spiritually, steady in personality, independent, responsible, and nationalist.
Concerning the education of children in West Papua is the same as preparing the next generation to manage the existing natural resources there. A child's mindset is like a photographic plate with no image but ready to reflect on all that he sees.

Four pillars of education in the current and future, which were proclaimed by UNESCO that we need to apply and develop in West Papua through the formal educational institutions, are Learning to know, Learning to do, Learning to be, and Learning to live together. Those pillars are the forerunner of local governments in West Papua (in this case, it is the educational department) to educate West Papuan children.
To realize Learning to know, teachers should function as facilitators. Moreover, teachers are required to be able to act as peers in dialogue with students in developing the knowledge and others.
Learning to do will work well if the school facilitates students to actualize the skills they have, as well as their talents and interests. Although the talents and interests of many children are affected by heredity but the growing of talent and interest depends on the environment. Skills can be used to sustain one's life. Even, skills are more dominant in supporting the success of one's life than knowledge he has.
Learning to be is closely related to the talents and interests, physical and psychological development of children, personal child's typology, and environmental conditions. For aggressive children, the process of self-development will work well if they are given a wide opportunity enough to be creative. Conversely, for passive children, the role of teacher as a director and facilitator is needed for their development.
Habits of living together, mutual respect, openness, giving, and receiving  need to be grown. This condition allow the process of Learning to live together. The implementation of the fourth pillar is felt increasingly important in the era of globalization. We need to cultivate mutual understanding between race, ethnicity, and religion so as that differences do not cause various contradictions that originate in these things.
