Rafael Ramirez

In September 28, 2017, at 9.46, at the UN Headquarters, NYC, the Permanent Representative/Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Rafael Ramirez, provided clarifications to the media.

In his capacity as the Chair of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization (C-24), Ambassador Ramirez underlined, "I have never received anything nor anybody regarding the  issue of West Papua".

Answering a reporter's question whether Ambassador Rafael had ever held communications with Benny Wenda, the Chairman of the Decolonization Committee reiterated that it is not possible to relate to parties outside the C-24 agenda. Ambassador Rafael Ramírez further expressed his indignation with individuals and parties who have manipulated his name for their own propaganda.

The statement was made after the Guardian newspaper published its article on September 27, 2017, which stated that Benny Wenda had submitted a petition calling for a referendum for Papua to the UN Decolonization Committee.

Furthermore, the Ambassador of Venezuela asserted his utmost respect for the integrity and sovereignty of the territory of all member States.

As explained by the Chairman of the Decolonization Committee, the mandate of the Decolonization Committee is limited to 17 Non-Self-Governing Territories. He further confirmed the fact that Papua is not included in those 17 territories.

"As fellow members of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), we always uphold the NAM's principal principles that respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Member States". He further affirmed that Venezuela will never do anything against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Indonesia.

The statement of the Chairman of the UN Special Committee on Decolonization once again shows that the separatist and Benny Wenda groups continue to spread hoaxes and lies to the public. This atrocious activity are often carried out during big UN meetings, attended by UN high-rank officials. "Last year, Benny Wenda mentioned that he has submitted documents regarding Papua to the UN Secretary-General, but after further confirmation to the Secretary General's office, it was proven to be a lie," said the Indonesian Ambassador to the United Nations, Triansyah Djani.
