The Government's Big Plan "Light Up Papua"

Various allegations which are spread by West Papuan separatists and their supporters against Indonesian government about the existence of genocide and human rights violations in West Papua do not describe the condition of West Papua at the moment. Recently, Vanuatu's Justice Minister and other Pacific countries have complained Indonesian government to the UN Human Rights Council about those issues. West Papua is actually the area that became one of Indonesian government's focus on infrastructure developments.

In the plan of Indonesian government under President Jokowi until 2019, the government will build power plants with a capacity of 356 MW for Papua province and 158 MW for West Papua province. Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) will finalize the program of lighting infrastructure developments in West Papua in the near future. The lighting program in West Papua is expected to be completed in 2018. "There are several energy infrastructure developments in Papua but the great one of them is electricity," said Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Ignatius Jonan, in Media Discussion event at Cafe Kembang Kencur, Jakarta, on Sunday, March 5th, 2017. "This is what the government's target within the next year. Furthermore, we will post the electricity," he said. Jonan admitted that from 2,500 villages that are still dark, mostly in Papua and West Papua province.

The acceleration of development in West Papua will also be made in various sectors, such as the construction of toll sea, air expressway, airports, and ports. All these things are meant in order that basic needs become cheaper and affordable for Papuans. Besides, the welfare of Papuans will be immediately achieved.
